Isotopenuntersuchungen sind ein leistungsstarkes Instrument zur Erkundung von Grundwasser. Sie liefern Schlüsselinformationen zum Alter und zur Herkunft von Grundwasservorkommen, zur natürlichen Schadstoffminderung in Altlasten und zur forensischen Aufklärung von Grundwasserkontaminationen. Insbesondere für Sanierungskonzepte, die den biologischen Schadstoffabbau nutzen, können sie von großer Bedeutung sein.

Das zweitägige Symposium gibt einen Einblick in den aktuellen Stand der Technik und in zukünftige Entwicklungen. Ingenieure und Behörden, die in der Altlastensanierung und im Grundwasserschutz tätig sind, diskutieren am ersten Tag Praxisbeispiele und Handlungsempfehlungen für Isotopenuntersuchungen (Tagungssprache deutsch). Am zweiten Tag erörtern führende europäische Isotopenforscher die wissenschaftlichen Herausforderungen in diesem Anwendungsgebiet (Tagungssprache englisch). 

Isotope analysis is a powerful instrument for groundwater investigations. It delivers key information about origin and age of groundwater resources, about natural attenuation at contaminated sites and about forensic source elucidation of groundwater contaminations. Such information is particularly important in the assessment of biological remediation schemes.

This two-day symposium gives an overview about the state of the art and future developments. On the first day, experts in ground water protection and contaminated site management present case studies and guidelines for isotope investigations (in German). On the second day, leading European researchers discuss scientific challenges in the isotope analysis and monitoring of groundwater contaminants (in English). On the morning of the following day, the meeting of the Technical Committee “Isotope Fractionation” of the Water Chemical Society, GdCh (German Chemical Society) invites interested scientists and practitioners to a future scientific exchange.
